Widot hwy 42 resurfacing project

HIGHWAY 42 RESURFACING PROJECT TO BEGIN

The WisDOT STH 42 resurfacing project is about to begin and we want to provide you with as much information as possible – and trust us, there is A LOT! Most importantly, the businesses within the construction project are open, accessible and waiting to provide you with a great experience!

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will begin work on Monday, April 8, 2024 to resurface and make improvements on Highway 42 from the Hwy 42/57 split to Rainbow Ridge Court. The project was originally scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 3 but was modified due to impending weather. Upon start of the project, HWY 42 will be closed and detoured to THRU TRAFFIC but will be accessible to LOCAL TRAFFIC. Businesses and properties in the work zone are still accessible!!

🚨 ARE YOU LOCAL TRAFFIC?

You are considered local traffic if you live, shop, work or have another stop within the road closure area that’s ONLY accessible directly from HWY 42. While this does mean you are able to travel within the road closure – please expect some delays as the road will be under flagging operations. If there is an alternate route available to minimize your travel in the detour area, please utilize it! This will assist in helping keep the crews safe and the project progressing as quickly as possible.

🚨ARE YOU THRU TRAFFIC?

If you are traveling beyond the 42/57 junction and your first stop is beyond the construction zone, you are considered THRU TRAFFIC and must utilize the detour.

🚨 DETOUR ROUTE

From the south, the detour will take you from HWY 57, to County Hwy V (in Jacksonport), along County Hwy A, to County Hwy EE. This will take you to the north side of Egg Harbor.

Please keep in mind, the Village of Egg Harbor also has a road closure in place beyond Rainbow Ridge Court along with an associated detour as construction continues along HWY 42 within the Village limits. This project is running concurrently with the WiDOT project. The detour associated with the Village’s project runs from County HWY I, to HWY 57, to County Hwy V, to County Hwy A, to County Hwy EE.

🚨HOW LONG WILL THE DETOUR BE IN PLACE?

The detour will begin April 3 with a 50 day working contract – which equates to 2-3 months of construction. The crew is required to halt work by June 28 whether they are finished or not. This might require them to return after Labor Day under flagging operations for completion.

WisDOT road work will end by noon on Fridays and detours will be temporarily removed for the Memorial Day holiday and Juneteenth holiday. Detours will also be temporarily removed on weekends from Memorial Day – June 28th as long as there is no work being performed that necessitates a lane closure.

All closures for local and state highway work will end on June 28. Again, detours may be put back into place following Labor Day if work is not completed prior to June 28.

🚨PROJECT BENEFITS

  • Mill and overlay of the existing asphaltic pavement – the existing pavement surface is
deteriorating and has numerous longitudinal and transverse cracks
  • Replace various deteriorated culvert pipes
  • Add right turn lanes at Monument Point Road in both northbound and southbound directions – a recent increase in turning movements at the Monument Point Road intersection has resulted in increased maintenance of the shoulders and safety concerns at that location. The addition of a right turn lane will provide greater safety for motorists.
  •  New pavement markings
  • New centerline and shoulder rumble strips – rumble strips will enhance safety by alerting motorist who leave the travel lane.
  • Resurfacing of the roadway will provide a smoother driving surface for drivers resulting in less wear on vehicles. It will also extend the life of the pavement and decrease future maintenance costs.
